60s Style Union of Love

I been busy with lotsa commercial project and came across a request to produce 50s & 60s design. Frankly, it is quite a challenging task for me {secret for you....I am born in the 90s}.

However, after much research and experimenting...I came out with something really funky for the project, and also another one with the same style to add on to my wedding card collection. I know not many people will go for this style..but I think it will be real cool to use 50s & 60s theme in wedding. Imagining all the ladies came with their 60s hair and sexy red lips, and gents in their leather jacket and tight pant. Hot disco music with pop soda. Isn't that cool?

Assurance of Spring

This painting titled "Assurance of Spring", inspired by the quote above.

Many time in life we thought why the winter stay on we simply can't see hope in getting out. Yet, we know winter is merely a season of our life...it will past, and spring will surely arrive. All we need to do is have faith, and persevere through....hope for spring.

I am reminded of a fact....I don't own spring, and I can't create spring. The ultimate creation and life belongs to God. So, place your yoke on Him and rest in Him through your winter. Be assured that the spring He brings is beyond what your mind can fathom.

Snowdrop flower were among the first few species of green which breakthough that thick snow, bring life and spring to the land once again. Although the late snow may cover them right after they bud but you can be assured, the snowdrop flower, who's humble in its posture....were more than a conqueror.

Chamber of Love

I have no clue why I name this series "Chamber of love" but it just came into my mind when I visualize the concept of this collection.

I love the pinkish purple kind of maroon...it is sort of like too overwhelming kind of love manifested into something really great and extraordinary.

The concept is clearly into the direction of "he" met "her" under God divine appointment, and they connected and growth in their relationship since then. God is very much in the picture from the beginning, and will be the one who seal the covenant between the 2 individual - to form a complete wholesome covenant.

The "he" and "she" is later appear to be "his name" and "her name", forming a covenant seal. The seal is then widely used in all the stationary in this collection. Also, the used of love to form cursive motif gave a classic lacy look spreading elegantly across the layout...simply tasteful. I heart! ^_~

Apple of your eyes

I recently involve in an valentine events. The organizing committee came to me with this...

Theme: Loving you to the next level
Colour: Purple
Concept: Timeless

It is a wonderful theme to work on. After some communication...the team wanted something special as their name tag. Yet, nothing to obsessively clichéd...so, I thought of this verse...

Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings
Psalm 17:8

I love the verse above. Many times we wish we could be the apple of someone eyes...especially someone we love, don't we?

It is special and suited the theme well. The organizing committee like the idea of using green apple for him, and red apple for her. So, immediately I work on to produce something classy and timeless for the event...

Since we are going for green apple and red apple, I decided to use different purple to compliment the colour of apple. So, lilac for her, and violet for him to bring out the contrast visually.

Concept wise, I harvest into the concept of LOVE. LOVE is the reason why 2 completely different people willing to work on all the differences, and come together as one. It is no other reason but LOVE alone.

Love isn't just another romantic moment which may fade with time. But, LOVE is God, who teaches us the real value of love through His son. His love is unconditional. So we too learn to love one another, and honor all the promises and vows we had for one another with all our heart...because

Those do not know LOVE do not know GOD, because God is love.

Some drama...the apple do not come with stalk! So, I attached the leaf name tag with a pin instead. It turn out very nice and cut down all the time required to tie ribbon.

Don't you think the apple looks lovely with their purple leaf? ^_~

31 August 2003 is the date the couple choose for their big day. Yes, it is 8 years ago. ^_~

The couple were Malaysian but decided to settle down in Singapore for good. The Bride, Amy is a wonderful dynamic lady. She has a very clear thought of what she want and she knew it in the very first place, her's wedding card got to be a customize one and I love her for that...as you know, fulfilling the norm is easy yet difficult.

The norm

To have something like everyone else, but looks better and looks different. Eventually, the design is more or less meaningful in the expected range.

The ought

To have something on their own which portray their personality like nobody else. It is challenging but the process is usually extremely satisfying...because you never know what's the end result.

Most importantly, I love the freedom in creativity and trust the clients gave me. ^_~ I just couldn't fail them.

I started off by observing the way she dress, the accessories she used, and finding out her favorite colours, food, movie, music and etc. All these information gave me a good tips on what design is suitable for her, and her husband love everything she choose...sweet! ^_~

The conclusion

They love watches (and their exchanging ring will be replace with exchanging watches - to symbolizing fruitful time together forever)
Seashell - Amy used to live beside the sea and collected a lot of it.
Contemporary & Fine Art - Amy love to draw abtract art and prefer clean cut, not-girly, not flowery, dynamic colours, shape and lines.

Sticky Tidbits

From the look of it...is a dessert tidbits, but the truth...is a handmade magnet. I got it done for the Christmas door gift.

It began with a problem...low budget! Well, this often happen when you have a big group of people and you wanna give something special, yet you got no budget left for anything fancy!

So, I ended up walking along the flee market, souvenir shop and supermarket but noting catch my eyes. Finally, I decided to walk into a stationary shop to get some wrapping paper and I saw these little colourful magnet sticking on the door frame...an idea immediately hit me!

They are cheap...like $2 for 6pcs! Dirt cheap eh! Since it is for Christmas, I decided to get only red and green, and decorate it with a waterproof spongy material to produce the shape I desire - bear and Christmas tree. On top of it, I also get some ready made sticky heart which only cost $3 for 60pcs. I began to imagine how it looks when I put them together...and the thought make me smile ^_~

I like to go along the concept..."Good Heart Bare Good Fruit"

I start off with creating a mold for the bear and tree...simple shape and a sharp pair of scissors is all I need to get 40pcs of cutie shade ready. Then, stick the shape on the magnet and finishing with a pinkie heart in the middle...oww, it looks so sweet and appetizing!

I place them on a ratan tray as if they are small tidbits with sweet icing. Don't they look eatable? ^_~

My Paper Shield

This is new! I've been wanted to do this since Dec 2009 and finally manage to put my hand together and get one up. I tried out a few size of paper con in different paper material and found this version looks the best.

I like the randomness of text appear unexpectedly from the recycle office paper I used, the black text on white paper always make people wondered if there's any other hidden messages behind...making them turn their head to read ^_~. Beside, I love this combination of blue and black, not only because it goes well with the theme of my house, but in its classic form, it has a touch of contemporary with dynamic characteristic. Then the little black ribbon is simply sweet yet extremely elegant, would you agree with me?

So, I have this wreath it place in front of my door as the welcome message to all my guests. I am thinking to customize some of these wreath in other colours for my friends. It will be a nice birthday gift too.

CAT Story

This project taken place almost 9 years ago. I am glad I didn't lost them and I still have the full source file and final art work as well.

I love this collection, even after a long 9 years...after many many fancy project...this project remains as one of my favorite. ^_~

It was called "Cat Story" because the couple love cat. They are young, very lovely, spontaneous to ideas and full of joy. They don't want to be typical romantic heart and flower...but something more real! Life isn't perfect and they choose to live it with simplicity and contentment.

So, we go for something easy going and real to them...hand sketch drawing. In our brand storming part, I included the cat and element of leaf in the design...

The materials...

First, is the cat...it got to give that "WOW" factor to the card...it is the soul of the project and everything wrap around it. The script was one of the most FUN part, and the most challenging part is searching for the right body for the cat. It is about walking through the garden picking up leaf that works - scan and apply, and search again, scan and apply until one that finally works.

Next: The Engagement

It was produce in FLASH format and send to all their guests. Surely...it looks very simple but making it tastefully fun is the greatest joy in producing this engagement e-card. ^_~

The couple and their guests love the card. Beside, I was told some the guests even bring them a cat soft toy to bless their union.

Too many times in my daily walk, I am short of words, lack of strength and I can barely smile. The sorrows sneak into my heart when I read the news, when brothers hurting one another, when people are prideful, selfish and manipulative…where the sign of true heart nearly extinct. I need to constantly turn my eyes to Him, and borrow all I need from Him…so I can be true to you, even you are not.
